The Rossetti Ensemble has, since its inception in 2018,  been captivating audiences throughout the UK with its extraordinary musicianship and flair. Composed of four musicians with illustrious individual reputations and eminent chamber music experience, they are joined by distinguished guest performers when programming works requiring an addition to the standard piano quartet.

The ensemble is known for the distinct diversity of its programmes, equally at home with the classic standards, premiering new works, uncovering rare masterpieces from the past and creating novel, unexpected combinations. Examples of the latter include “BATANGO!” which intersperses Bach’s Goldberg variations with the tangos of Piazzolla. The Rossetti Ensemble has an increasingly impressive collection of recordings, most recently for NAXOS with premiere recordings of three marvellous quintets by J.B. Cramer (a contemporary of Beethoven) in which they are joined by Leon Bosch on double bass. This will be available in 2027 and also in that year, again for NAXOS, the ensemble will record a pairing of two important late 19th Century richly romantic French piano quartets - those of Ernest Chausson and Vincent D’Indy. 

The Rossetti Ensemble made its first recordings in 2019/2020 for Toccata Classics - three CDs of chamber music by Robert Fürstenthal (now available as a box set) and, more recently, another CD of works by Lydia Kakabadse on Divine Art. The ensemble has championed music of other living composers especially David Matthews, giving many performances of his “A Song and Dance Sketchbook”  during 2023 in honour of his 80th birthday year. In addition, the ensemble made a recording under the auspices of the Schubert Trust which can now be heard on all streaming platforms. 

The Rossettis were delighted to accept an invitation from Apple Music to record short pieces and single movements from the core piano quartet repertoire. The first selection (released in April 2025) included works by Brahms, Debussy, Dvorak, Schumann and Fauré.

The Rossetti members  are John Lenehan (piano) “one of the leading chamber musicians in the world”, Sara Trickey (violin) - “simply stunning”, Sarah-Jane Bradley (viola) “wonderfully eloquent”, and Ursula Smith (cello) “heartbreakingly beautiful."
